Evanston, Ill. - The Nebraska men's tennis team had a delayed match against the Northwestern Wildcats, originially scheduled for Friday, played on Saturday in Big Ten play where they lost 4-0. The team will take on Illinois on Sunday at Noon in Champaign, Ill. The Huskers now have a 10-10 record for the season and a 3-5 mark in Big Ten play.
In doubles competition, Marc Herrmann and Scott Elsass took on No. 2 against No. 82 ranked Fedor Baev and Strong Kirchheimer where they fought hard but came up short in an 8-5 finish. At No. 3, Andrew Dzulynsky and Charlie Shin saw playing time against the Wildcats's Alp Horoz and Mihir Kumar where they too fell short in an 8-5 finish. Dusty Boyer and Bradford Zitsch played at No. 1 against the No. 44 team of Sam Shropshire and Alex Pasareanu where they had an unfinished match, stopping at 7-4, Northwestern with the lead.
In singles play, Chris Hobgarski began at No. 4 against Logan Staggs where he suffered a loss going 6-2, 6-2 against Staggs.
At No. 6, Scott Elsass saw some singles action for the first time this season against Apl Horoz. Elsass unfortunately lost 6-0 in the first set and then 6-2 in the second. This put the Wildcats at 3-0 over the Huskers.
Finishing up the meet, Marc Herrmann competed against No. 116, Strong Kirchheimer where Herrmann feel short to the talented competition. The two went 6-3 in the first set followed by a 6-2 mark in the second set at the No. 2 position.
