Nebraska Begins Stay in Indiana Against Hoosiers

Bloomington, Ind. - The Nebraska men's tennis team began its stay in Indiana on Friday where the No. 73 Huskers took on the No. 44 Indiana Hoosiers. NU fought in a tough battle against the top-ranked Big Ten Hoosiers but fell short resluting in a final score of 6-1. This puts Nebraska at 9-8 in the regular season and 2-3 in Big Ten play. The team looks forward to Sunday where they will take on the Purdue Boilmakers. 

Doubles play began at No. 3 where the duo of Andrew Dzulynsky and Marc Herrmann competed against Sven Lalic and Raheel Manji, taking the loss and going 8-3. Following, No. 2 Linus Erhart and Scott Elsass took on Stefan Lugonjic and Chris Essick where they played some great tennis and took the win for the Huskers going 8-3. At No. 1, Dusty Boyer and Bradford Zitsch fought it out against the Hoosiers' Daniel Bednarczyk and Sam Monette where they unfortunately lost 8-2, putting Indiana at an advantage with the doubles point. 

In singles play, Marc Herrmann competed against Daniel Bednarczyk in a close first set going 7-5 but ultimately losing the win in the second set where finishing 6-3 in Bednarczyk's favor at No. 2.

At No. 5, Chris Hobgarski played Matthew McCoy where they two battled it out resulting in another win for the Hoosiers going 6-4, 6-1.

Linus Erhart took on the No. 3 position against Sven Lalic of Indiana. The two went 6-3, 6-3 giving the Hoosiers another point and putting them at a 4-0 advantage over the Huskers.

Andrew Dzulynsky and Raheel Manji competed at No. 4 where Manji took the win over Dzulynksy going 6-4 in the first set and finishing 6-1 in the second.

Dusty Boyer took the only win for the Huskers in the day's competition at No. 1 where he competed against Sam Monette. The two had a tight match, going 4-6 in the first set followed by 6-3 in the second and 7-5 in the final set, giving Boyer the win.

Finishing up the meet at No. 6, Bradford Zitsch played Stefan Lugonjic where they also had some close sets. In the first set the two went 6-4 in Lugonjic's favor, finishing 7-6(8) in a very close second and ultimately finishing the match. 

"Our No. 2 doubles team continues to get it done," said Coach McDermott. "We need our other two doubles teams to step it up in order to have a chance to win the doubles point. We competed pretty well when we needed to. Dusty continued his winning ways and found another way to win after loosing that first set. We just need to move forward from here and get ready for Purdue on Sunday."
