Huskers Deliver Win in California

Newport Beach, Calif. – The 64th-ranked Nebraska women’s tennis team improved to 12-5 on the season today with a 4-3 win over Loyola Marymount in Newport Beach, Calif. The Huskers came out strong, earning the doubles point before earning three more singles wins to clinch the match.

The Huskers 47th-ranked duo of Izabella Zgierska and Mary Hanna scorched the competition as they swept Piller and Grossman, 6-0, at the No. 1 spot. Maggy Lehmicke and Lisa Andersson secured the doubles point for NU as they over-powered Perez and Romeka, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.

The Big Red earned singles 3 wins, all in two sets, to grab the win for the day. Katerina Matysova shut out Kovyovmjian, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot while Lisa Andersson came out with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Grossman at the No. 5 spot.

NU suffered losses at the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 6 spots, tying the Huskers and Lions, 3-3, with only one match to go. Zgierska shined at the No. 2 spot as she out-played Crespo with a pair of 6-4 sets, clinching the match and earning Nebraska the 4-3 victory.

The Huskers continue their away stretch as they hit the road for Iowa City, Iowa to face Big Ten opponent Iowa on Sunday, March 29 at 3 p.m. Results will be posted on Huskers.com following the match.
