Goodyear, Ariz. – The Nebraska men’s golf team fired a final-round 283 on Saturday en route to an eighth-place finish at the Denver Desert Shootout.
The Huskers finished with a season-best 858 tournament total at the Palm Valley Golf Club’s 7,105-yard, par-72 layout. NU opened the team competition Thursday with a 289 before posting a 286 in Friday’s second round.
Senior Josh Reinertson led NU by carding a final-round 71. Reinertson finished the three-day tournament tied for 23rd after producing a 54-hole 212 total with 67 and 74 on the first two days.
Seniors Calvin Freeman and Ross Dickson both finished tied for 32nd at 215 strokes. Freeman fired a final round 2-under par 70 after a 77 and 68 on the first two days. Dickson posted an even-par final round after a 70 and 73.
Justin Jennings carded his best round of the tournament with a 2-under par 70. The sophomore finished tied for 48th place with a 3-over-par 219. He is one stroke ahead of freshman Niko Vui, who finished tied for 51st place after a final round 72. Senior Mike Siwa competed as an individual in Goodyear and posted 225 for the tournament after 76 on Saturday, placing him in a tie for 69th.
The Huskers open next month at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio, April 11-12.
