Huskers Drop Heartbreaker to Michigan State

East Lansing, Mich. - The 61st-ranked Nebraska women's tennis team (11-4, 0-3 Big Ten) hit the road for the first time this season to East Lansing, Mich. where they fell to No. 73 Michigan State. The Huskers gained a 3-1 early advantage before the Spartans came back to grab the 4-3 victory, moving NU to 11-4 on the season.

The Huskers started the day strong in doubles competition, earning wins at the No. 1 and 3 spots. Husker duo and 47th-ranked doubles team of Mary Hanna and Izabella Zgierska scorched Erin Faulkner and Athena Trouillot, 8-1 while Mackenna Maddox and Katerina Matysova defeated Lexi Baylis and Emily Meyers, 8-3, at the No. 3 spot. 

Nebraska gained two more points with wins at the No. 3 and No. 5 singles.

Sophomore Mary Hanna defeated Michigan State’s Aslina Chua, 6-1, 6-4 while Matysova outplayed Trouillot, 6-2, 6-4. The Spartans tied it up with wins at the No. 1, 2 and 6 spots before grabbing the team win with a three-set tiebreaker victory at the No. 4 spot.  

The Huskers return to action on Friday, March 20 as they host Indiana at 11 a.m. at the Lincoln Racquet Club.
