Mesa, Ariz. - Jordan Chael posted her second top-five showing of the season, tying for fifth place to lead the Nebraska women's golf team to a ninth-place finish in a 15-team field at the Clover Cup on Sunday.
Chael, a sophomore from Overland Park, Kan., posted Nebraska's best individual score in all three rounds on the 6,184-yard, par-72 layout of the Longbow Golf Club. She finished with a three-round total of 221, including a final-round 76 on Sunday. Chael's 76 followed a 70 on Saturday and an opening-round 75 on Friday in Mesa. Her performance at the Clover Cup marked her third top-10 effort of the season.
Her performance on Sunday helped the Huskers produce a final-round 312 to finish with a three-round score of 928. Arizona State won the team title with a three-round total of 885 after posting its third straight score of 295. The hosts from Notre Dame finished 11 strokes back of the Sun Devils at 896. TCU closed the tournament in third at 898.
Oklahoma finished fourth at 904, led by individual medalist Hannah Wood, who carded a 54-hole score of 209. ASU's Monica Vaughn finished in second two strokes back at 211.
Nebraska junior Cassie Deeg joined Chael in carding a final-round 76. Deeg closed as NU's No. 2 finisher at the Clover Cup with a three-round total of 231 in a tie for 32nd. Freshman Audrey Judd, who was playing as an individual outside of the Husker lineup, added a final-round 79 to close in a tie for 48th at 235.
Fellow freshman Emily Gillman managed an 80 on Sunday to end the tournament in a tie for 60th at 240, while sophomore Sarah Pravecek rounded out NU's team score on Sunday with an 80 of her own to finish in a tie for 68th at 242. Junior Morgan Smejkal tied with Pravecek at 242, settling for a final-round 84.
The Huskers return to action in Arizona for their third consecutive tournament to open the spring when they compete at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, March 20-21.
