Oxford, Miss. --- The Nebraska rifle team placed third at the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships this weekend, ending with a team score of 4,664.
On Saturday, the Huskers tallied a team smallbore score of 2,306, putting the team in fourth place, with one day left of competition left.
On Sunday, the team fired the second-best air rifle score to move up one spot. Denise Martin led the way for the Huskers recording a 591. Lauren Phillips also finsihed with a high score of 590. Nebraska's final air rifle score was 2,358. Rachel Martin scored a 589, while Jaycee Carter tallied a 588. Maggie Mical fired a 585 and Marissa Major finished with a 583.
Lauren Phillips represented the Huskers in the individual finals, finishing in fifth place for smallbore.
West Virginia came in first place with a score of 4,709 and Kentucky came in second with a score of 4,671.
The Huskers compete for the last time this season at the NCAA Championships in Fairbanks, Alaska. Smallbore competition takes place Friday, March 13 and air rifle competition occurs on Saturday, March 14.
