Huskers Defeat No. 64 Denver Pioneers 4-3

Denver, Colo. - The Nebraska men's tennis team pulled a big win over the No. 64 Denver Pioneers 4-3 on Saturday.

The Big Red did not gain the doubles point but won four of the six singles matches bringing them ahead of the Pioneers. The No. 3 doubles position finished first with the duo Marc Herrmann and Chris Hobgarski faced Jesse Ruder-Hook and Henry Craig falling 6-3 to the Pioneers. Following, Linus Erhart and Scott Elsass played Diogo Rocha and Yannik James where they also lost 6-4. Dusty Boyer and Bradford Zitsch played at the No. 1 position against Alex Gasson and David Fox where their match went unfinished at 4-4.

In singles play, Dusty Boyer took on Henry Craig where he played in a few tight matches but came out victorious going 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 at the No. 1 spot. Marc Herrmann also grabbed a point for the team going head-to-head against Diogo Rocha 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 2 position.

At the No. 3 position, Linus Erhart had a close 7-6 in his first match followed by another win going 6-2 against Alex Gasson.

At the No. 4 and 5 positions, Andrew Dzulynsky and Chris Hobgarski put up a fight but fell short in their play. Dzulynsky took on Yannik James going 4-6, 6-2, 1-6 at No. 4 and Hobgarski went 6-1, 5-7, 5-7 against David Fox at No. 5, his first loss of the season.

At No. 6, Vasileios Stavropoulos keeps his winning streak defeating Jesse Ruder-Hook 6-2, 6-4.  

"Solid team win considering we lost the doubles point but our team showed great determination and character tonight as a team," said Coach McDermott. "We needed this win against a very well ranked team and will use this to work harder day in and day out!"

The team will continu their season on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 2:00 p.m. in Dallas, Texas where they will take on SMU. Results will be posted here on huskers.com following the match. Go Huskers!
