Nebraska Sweeps South Dakota State in Home Opener

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska men's tennis team swept the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 7-0 in the home opener at the Lincoln Racquet Club. The team, now with a 4-4 mark, continues at home against the Creighton Bluejays at 6 p.m.

Taking the doubles point was a great start to the meet as the Huskers won two of the three doubles matches. Finishing first at No. 2, the duo of Dusty Boyer and Linus Erhart took on the Jackrabbit's Mateus Moreira and Gary Notkin where they quickly went 8-1. Following at No. 3, Marc Herrmann with partner Andrew Dzulynsky competed against Lovro Curcija and Jonny Higham winning 8-3. Finishing up doubles competition, Bradford Zitsch and Scott Elsass took on a challenging Parker Lawley and Andrea Boglic ultimately losing 8-5 but still earning the doubles point as a team. 

In singles play, Marc Herrmann kicked off the winning streak at No. 2 in a match-up against Henrique Pereira going 6-1, 6-3 in a speedy match. 

At No. 1, Dusty Boyer took on Andrea Boglic where he also went 6-1, 6-3 following closely behind Herrmann along with Linus Erhart. Erhart went 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 competing against South Dakota State's Parker Lawley. 

Andrew Dzulynsky started his match-up against Mateus Moreira 6-1, followed by a tie breaker in the second set resulting in a victory of 7-6(4) over his opponent at No. 4.

Chris Hobgarski then saw success at No. 5, facing Lovro Curcija. Hobgarski played strong tennis resulting in another quick win of 6-2, 6-1.

Finishing the meet, Vasileios Stavropoulos played in a very tight match against Gary Notkin at No. 6. Stavropoulos began the first set in a close loss of 6-7 followed by a victory of 7-6, going 7-5 in the tiebreaker in the second set. He fought on to win the final set 1-0 giving the team it's final win of the day. 

"The team did a good job of styaing focused all day and getting off to a good start in singles," said Coach McDermott on the team's performance.
