NU Powers Past Illinois State, Remains Undefeated

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women's tennis team claimed a 6-1 victory over Illinois State Sunday, Feb. 22 at the Nebraska Tennis Center, marking an impressive 8-0 record for the season. 

Doubles action began with a clean sweep as the Huskers won on all three courts.

Izabella Zgierska and Mary Hanna teamed up at the No. 1 spot to earn a 6-2 win over Illinois State's Kadi Ilves and Donna Haycock. Maggy Lehmicke and Lisa Andersson out-played Catherine Shulman and Chanel Scudiero while Spurti Shivalingaiah and Katerina Matysova defeated Valerija Gercar and Natalia Parchowska, with both NU duo's earning a 6-1 win. 

Advancing to singles with a 1-0 lead over the Redbirds, the Huskers grabbed five singles victories en route to the final 6-1 win. Zgierska defeated Haycock with a pair of 6-3 sets at the No. 2 spot as Hanna earned another win at the No. 3 spot, out-playing Shulman 6-4, 6-1. 

Shivalingaiah continued her hot streak at the No. 4 spot with a pair of 6-3 sets to deliver the win over Scudiero, earning the redshirt freshman an 8-0 record on the season.

Andersson remains steady at the No. 5 spot, nabbing a notable 6-2, 6-0 win over Gercar while Mackenna Maddox rounded out the day with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Parchowska. 

The Huskers continue their home-stretch this Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. at the Lincoln Racquet Club as they face St. John's. Results will be posted here on Huskers.com following the dual. Go Big Red!
