Huskers Nab 16 Titles at Nebraska Tune-Up

LINCOLN - The Nebraska track and field team hosted the Nebraska Tune-Up on Friday, the final indoor home meet of the season in front of 1,284 fans at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track. The Huskers garnered 16 event titles one week before the Big Ten Indoor Championships.

Jordan Stiens ran a personal-best 8.34 in the 60m hurdles to finish as the top collegiate competitor. Her time moved her to No. 5 in the Big Ten this season and also No. 5 in school history. Morgan Smith also ran a PR of 8.70 in the event to finish as the third-best collegiate competitor.

Oladapo Akinmoladun won the men's 60m hurdles, matching his season best of 7.91. Sean Pille took second in 7.94, a PR and the sixth-best time in the Big Ten this season. Antoine Lloyd also PRd at 8.02 to finish fourth and move to 10th in the Big Ten. Lloyd later ran another PR of 6.87 in the 60 meters, the second-best time by a Husker this season and good for 14th in the Big Ten. He finished the day with his third PR, clocking in at 21.75 in the 200 meters.

Brena Andrews posted a 24.49 to win the 200 meters, while freshman Malcolm White won the men's 200 meters in 21.50, which puts him ninth in the Big Ten. Morgan Woitzel set a PR in the 400 meters of 56.73 to place third. 

Shawnice Williams won the 600 meters with a season-best 1:32.55, putting her 11th in the Big Ten. Haley Harsin was right behind in her second place at 1:33.73. Levi Gipson won the men's 600 meters in 1:18.34. Sam Bransby was second with a PR of 1:18.79, and Edgar Propst was third with a PR of 1:18.85. Bransby and Propst moved to 12th and 14th in the Big Ten, respectively.

Katrina Santiago set a PR of 10:30.51 to finish fifth in the 3,000 meters. Alec Sery was seventh with a PR of 8:45.92.

Jake Pinion set the tone in the field events, winning the weight throw competition with a PR of 62-5 3/4, good for 19th in the Big Ten and 11th in NU history. The Huskers had three of the top four spots in the event with Nick Percy third (58-11 1/2) and Christopher Daniels fourth (55-3 3/4). Jackson Ingram, competing unattached, was fifth with a PR of 55-1.  Allen Davis was the top collegiate thrower in the shot put, posting a throw of 54-9 1/2. Former Husker Chad Wright had the top throw of 55-9 1/4. Tristen Sharp won the women's shot put with a throw of 48-0 3/4. Freshman Asia Cole was third with an all-time PR of 47-10 1/2. All three of her scored throws topped her previous PR.

Paula Andrie won the pole vault with a PR of 13-6 1/4, which is tied for sixth in NU history and ranks fourth in the Big Ten. Christian Sanderfer won the men's pole vault, clearing a season-high 17-0 3/4. Craig Driver also cleared that height to finish second. Jed FenskeBeau Simmons and Tyler Loontjer (unattached) rounded out the top five spots. 

Landon Bartel won the men's high jump with a mark of 7-0 1/2, while Marusa Cernjul racked up her fourth title in the event this season with a leap of 5-11 1/4. Jerry Westerfield was the top collegiate jumper in the long jump with a mark of 23-4 1/2. Former Huskers Nicholas Gordon and Chris Phipps were one and two, respectively, in the event. Kari Heck was the second-best collegiate jumper in the long jump with a season-best leap of 19-2 3/4. Kaiwan Culmer led a 1-2-3 Husker finish in the triple jump with a 48-4 to win the event. Davon Clark (47-9 1/4) and Corey Winston (47-5 1/4) were second and third, respectively.

The Huskers capped the night with a win in the women's 4x400 relay. Kristen Dowell, Harsin, Williams and Woitzel ran a 3:45.05.

The NU men's distance medley relay team will compete at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Saturday. Alney Tobias, Andy Neal, Moujtaba Mohammed and Connor Gibson are set to run the DMR, which begins at 12:05 p.m. Nolan Border will also compete for the Huskers. A live video stream of the meet can be found here

The Huskers will compete at the Big Ten Indoor Championships next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
