NU Sweeps Colorado State, Improve to 5-0

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women's tennis team dominated the competition Friday at the Lincoln Racquet Club as they swept the Colorado State Rams earning a perfect 7-0 score for the day. The Huskers remain undefeated for the season at 5-0. 

Senior Izabella Zgierska and redshirt freshmen Spurti Shivalingaiah and Katerina Matysova remain undefeated in singles play for the season with Maggy Lehmicke remaining a steady force at the No. 1 spot. 

Doubles play began with Zgierska and Lehmicke teaming up to face Colorado State's undefeated pair of Natalie Heffron and Adriana Wojakowska. NU's No. 1 doubles duo outplayed the Rams, earning an 8-3 victory. 

Matysova and Mackenna Maddox defeated Rebecca Costa and Madison Porter, 8-4, to secure the NU doubles point. Shivalingaiah and Lisa Andersson teamed up to face Laia Hernandez and Mollie Cooper but did not finish after NU had already won the doubles point. 

Singles action began with a fast win by sophomore Mary Hanna as she outplayed L. Hernandez 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. Lehmicke earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Heffron as Zgierksa won with a pair of 6-3 sets against Wojakowska at the No. 1 and 2 spots respectively.

Shivalingaiah outplayed Mollie Cooper at the No. 4 spot, earning a strong 6-1, 6-2 win. Lisa Andersson won at the No. 5 spot with a pair of 6-1 sets over Maddie Buxton as Matysova captured a 6-1, 6-0 win over Madison Porter to round out the sweep for the Huskers.

The Huskers continue competitive play this Valentine's weekend as they face the Missouri Tigers (6-2) on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. at the Nebraska Tennis Center. Go Big Red!
