NU Rifle: Back in Action

After almost two months off, the No. 7 Nebraska rifle team resumes competition when it travels to West Virginia and Akron this weekend.

Nebraska starts off the new year on Jan. 17, when it will take on the top-ranked Mountaineers.  Last season, the Huskers faced West Virginia in the team's opening match and fell to the Mountaineers by just five points.

Then, on Jan. 18, the Huskers will travel to Akron to challenge the No. 14 Zips.

The Huskers last competed on Nov. 23 against Alaska-Fairbanks, but fell to the Nanooks by a score of 4,700-4,657, bringing the team's overall record to 6-3.  Despite the loss though, many Huskers had stellar performances, including sophomore Rachel Martin, who smashed NU's previous individual air rifle record with her score of 597.  The team hopes for more great performances this weekend.

"We compete against two tough teams," Coach Ashley Rose-MacAllister said. "We have trained hard to prepare for the upcoming [matches] and our team is ready to shoot a great score."
