The Nebraska men's tennis team added two new recruits including Micah Klousia from Springfield, Missouri. Head Coach Kerry McDermott is excited to be adding a player to team that has so much experience and preparation to play at the Division 1 level.
Micah's father, Jim Klousia, is the former Head Men's Tennis Coach at Southwest Missouri State. He led the Bearcats to the NCAA Team Championships seven years ago. Jim has been Micah's coach over the years and has done an excellent job of preparing him for college tennis.
Micah Klousia is a four star recruit and is ranked at No. 2 in Missouri and No. 4 in the Missouri Valley Section. Klousia has been ranked as high as the top 35 in the nation by the USTA for his age group. He has also been ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in every age division since the age of 10 in the Missouri Valley Section. Micah currently plays for Glendale High School where as a Junior last year, was State Class 2 runner up in singles. He also won the Tournament of Champions in St. Louis, which consists of the top high school players from every class in the state of Missouri. Off the court, Micah has been selected to the All Conference Academic First Team for all three years of his high school career.
Head Coach Kerry McDermott and Assistant Coach Fungai Tongoona are excited to see Micah's skills put to use when he arrives to Lincoln.
"What we as coaches like about Micah is that he is a very good thinker on the court, moves, well, his technique is very good, he is a fighter to the end, and his skills in doubles are already ahead of most incoming freshman," said Coach Kerry McDermott. "He also has the skills necessary to become a leader at an early age in our program as he is a team player and knows what it takes to make others around him better!"
"Both guys I feel are going to shine in our program and they both know that with the new facility, indoor and outdor that is going up on campus at this time, that next year they want to be part of something big within the Big Ten and nationally for our program and the University of Nebraska. We feel that these two kids are a great fit for our team!"
