Colorado Springs, Colo. - Sophomore Lauren Phillips fired the highest smallbore score of the day in Nebraska’s season debut against Air Force. Despite a valiant effort by Phillips and the rest of the team, the Huskers fell short against the Falcons by a score of 4,667-4,648.
In smallbore, Phillips shot a 585, followed by Denise Martin who tallied a 576. Air Force’s David Higgins scored a 581, helping the Falcons take a seven-point lead after the first discipline.
Sophomore Jaycee Carter finished with a 592 in air rifle to try and help the Huskers come from behind to get the win, but it wasn’t enough to beat Air Force. Nebraska finished with a final air rifle score of 2,348.
The Huskers are back in action next weekend at the NU Rifle Range as they welcome Murray State on Oct. 10 and Ole Miss on Oct. 12. Both matches are set to begin at 8am.
