Nebraska Heads to Minnesota for Big Ten Invite

The Nebraska men's tenis team heads to Minneapolis for the Big Ten Singles and Doubles Championships hosted by the Univesity of Minnesota at the Baseline Tennis Center this weekend.

The Huskers will be traveling with the whole squad and will be in competition with eight other schools. Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue and Wisconsin will all be participating.

Last year at the Big Ten Singles and Doubles Championships in West Lafayette, Ind., Marc Herrmann and Beau Treyz claimed the doubles title for the Big Red. The victory gave the Huskers their first-ever championship at the Big Ten's annual indoor singles and doubles competition.

Coach Kerry McDermott said he was excited about the success of Herrmann and Treyz last year, and the Huskers are hoping hard work earns them another title this season.

"These guys are what this program represents," McDermott said. "Hard work, perseverance, being professional and competing hard so good things will happen."

Doubles will be an eight-game pro-set with tiebreak at 7-7. Main draw singles is two out of three sets. Back draw singles will be two out of three sets with a super-tiebreak for the third. No ad scoring for all matches.

Doubles play will begin Friday at 9 a.m. Singles competition starts Saturday and runs through Monday. The results from Friday's matches will be posted on Huskers.com at the conclusion of the day's matches.
