Huskers Fall in Day Two of Central Regional

Stillwater, Okla. -  The Huskers faced a challenging day two of the ITA Central Regional Championship where the main draw of singles and the qualifying round of doubles were played.

Two Huskers qualified for the main draw in singles and represented Nebraska in the championship tournament that hosts over 130 student-athletes from around the nation. Senior Izabella Zgierska faced Oklahoma Sooner Christie Brigante but fell short in a 6-4, 6-2 loss. Junior Maggy Lehmicke faced Dobby Leenabanchong of the University of Tulsa. No. 8 seeded Lehmicke dueled the No. 6 seeded Leenabanchong but was outplayed 6-3, 6-4.

In the qualifying first round of doubles, all four NU doubles teams were defeated. Lauren Wagner and Katerina Matysova fell short to Drake’s Eggleston and Herder, 8-6, while Lisa Andersson and Mackenna Maddox lost to KU Jayhawks Cardona and Luduena 8-3. Maggy Lehmicke and Spurti Shivalingaiah paired up to face Silver and McCullock of Iowa but were defeated 8-2. Mary Hanna and Izabella Zgierska faced the No. 4 seeded doubles team of Saarteinen and Kuricova from the University of Tulsa but came up short in an 8-6 loss. 

Tournament play resumes Saturday.
