Lincoln – University of Nebraska men’s basketball coach Tim Miles announced Thursday that freshman forward B.J. Day suffered season-ending injury to his left knee during practice this week.
The torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) was revealed during an MRI examination Thursday, and men’s basketball athletic trainer R.J. Pietig said that surgery will be scheduled in the near future. Day will miss the 2014-15 season and will apply for a medical redshirt to have four years of eligibility remaining.
“It is difficult because B.J. has worked hard in the offseason to get ready for the start of practice,” Miles said. “We look forward to him beginning his rehab, and our goal is to have him ready for the start of next season.”
Day, who is the son of former Husker standout Bernard Day, played at Lincoln Southeast High School, averaging 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season to earn second-team Class A all-state honors.
