Huskers Ready for Home Opener with Mavs

The Nebraska swimming and diving team will make its regular-season home debut against Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Devaney Natatorium. Saturday’s meet will start at 11 a.m. and will mark the second competition of the season for the Huskers.

Saturday’s competition will mark the 19th meeting between the Huskers and Mavericks.  Nebraska leads the all-time series 18-0, with the last meeting culminating with NU's 86-34 victory over UNO last season.

Saturday’s dual will be Nebraska-Omaha’s first regular-season competition of the year, following an intrasquad meet held on Sept. 12. The Mavericks, picked to finish fourth in the Summit League Preseason Coaches’ Poll, will be led by returning Summit League champion Morgan Stepp. 

Following Saturday’s meet, the Huskers will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 18, in Ames, Iowa, to take on Iowa State in another non-conference matchup.

Last Time Out: Huskers Fall to Iowa, Michigan

Despite victories from junior Alexandra Bilunas and sophomore Anna Filipcic, the Nebraska swimming and diving team dropped its first two conference battles of the season. The Huskers were outpaced by Iowa 191-109 and Michigan 182-112 on Saturday, Oct. 4, in Iowa City.

Bilunas earned the Huskers' first victory of the day swimming to a time of 23.82 in the 50-yard freestyle. The Huskers swept the first two spots of the race with Taryn Collura finishing second behind Bilunas with a time of 23.84. Collura also raced to a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle for the Huskers.

Anna Filipcic captured her second victory of the meet, posting a first-place score of 296.30 in the three-meter dive. Filipcic also earned a victory in the one-meter dive during the first session of the event on Friday.

Nebraska had a trio of third-place finishes in the individual events on Saturday, including Julia Roller in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.80), Jordan Ehly in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.04) and Katt Sickle in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.97).

In the relays, the Huskers earned third-place and fifth-place finishes. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Collura, Bria Deveaux, Kelly Dunn and Sickle raced to a third-place finish with a time of 3:32.51. The Huskers' 200-yard medley relay team of Jacqueline Juffer, Ehly, Deveaux and Collura captured a fifth-place finish with a time of 1:46.47.
