Maricopa, Ariz. – The Nebraska men’s golf ream is tied for third place at the Wyoming/Southern Dunes Invitational after shooting 588 over two rounds at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club on Saturday.
The Huskers started the day off strong with a first round 291 at the par 72, 7,500-yard layout before carding a second-round 297. Idaho leads the tournament heading into the final round after producing a 566 total on the first day.
Senior Ross Dickson led NU on Saturday by firing a 3-under, 141 after 36 holes. The London, England native started the day off strong with two straight birdies, helping him finish the first round with a 2-under-par 70. He stayed hot on the 97-degree day after carding 71 in the second round.
Niko Vui is tied for 10th place after posting a 1-under-par 143 on Saturday over 36 holes. The freshman from Apia, Samoa fired a first-round 72 before posting 1-under-par 71 in the second round in the second collegiate start of his career.
Calvin Freeman continued his surge after last week’s tie for third place at the Mark Simpson Invitational after carding a first round 1-under 71. The senior from Table Rock, Neb., posted a second-round 77 to put him at 148 after 36 holes.
Sophomore Justin Jennings finished Saturday tied for 39th place after carding a 13-over-par 157 over 36 holes. The Amarillo, Texas native started the day with a first round 78 before a second round 79. Jennings is 10 strokes ahead of senior Josh Reinertson, who shot a first round 89 before carding 78 in the second round. Reinertson is in 48th place heading into the final round.
Senior Mike Siwa and freshman Ben Maschka played as individuals outside of the Husker lineup. Maschka is in 44th place at 159, while Siwa is 47th after shooting 162 over the first two rounds.
The final round begins on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. (CT) with a shotgun start.
