Memorial Stadium (Lincoln, Neb.)
Pre-Illinois   On his message to the offense heading into Big Ten play “Pretty much just fix our mistakes. We play fast, we play high tempo but after watching film yesterday, we realized we made a lot of mistakes. We have just got to fix those mistakes. Keep the same tempo that we ran and just make sure we can execute the right way.”

On running the ball a lot on Saturday against Miami “We just run our offense honestly. We just took what they gave us. I said at the beginning of the week that we just want to go out there and run our offense. If we’re executing well, we’re just going to keep doing it until they stop it. And they really couldn’t stop us with our running game and the offensive line getting a push and receivers making blocks outside.”

On how well the offensive line has been protecting him “They’ve been doing a great job. They’re blocking what they see. They’re working hard and whenever they have to stand there for a few seconds longer than they actually have to. I praise them a lot just because they’re working their tails off, and we 've just got to make sure we go about it the right way. I felt like they’ve been going about it the right way during non-conference and in the conference they just go to block what they see. And they’re doing a good job of it.”

On the atmosphere Saturday night “It was great. Our crowd got us going here and there. We just don’t want to get caught up in the hype and caught up with the crowd. We kind of zone things out. We just had to stay level-headed and execute our game. It helped our defense a lot in certain areas and being able to get stops here and there.”

On his fumble during the Miami game “Just to get north and south and put two hands on the football. He put his helmet on my chest and I need to make sure I cover the ball. I kind of exposed myself here and there by cutting into him.”

On the key to moving past the Miami game “Just treating it like any other week. We treated it last week like it was any other original week and that’s what we have to do. Just treat it like it’s a normal game and drive on. Last week was last week, it’s a new week. We are going into conference 0-0 and this game is more important than last week’s game.”

On the importance of his familiarity with Illinois “I’m a little bit more familiar with it but just by watching film, we just don’t want to stress about what we saw last year. By watching certain games we noticed that those guys do stuff different.  We've got to expect anything when it comes to this team this year. We've just got to make sure we prepare the right way.”

On whether the season starts this week “Honestly the season started a long time ago. The season started in the offseason. We've just got to make sure we take care of ourselves, be smart, prepare the right way and treat every game like it’s our last. I think we are doing a great job at it, and we've just go to improve each and every week and not settle for where we are right now. We got a good win last week, but it starts over this week.”

On his faith in wide receiver Alonzo Moore “Honestly it’s just not him. It’s the whole receiving corps in general. Coach Fish (Rich Fisher) stresses on those guys making key plays, making key blocks and being playmakers when their number is called. They've just got to respond the right way, and I think that Alonzo did a good job responding on third down here and there making catches. Not just catches but tough catches.  I’m proud of those guys. They block their tails off. They line up each and every snap and they block defensive backs, linebackers and crack down on defensive ends and stuff like that. They did a great job and nobody really saw that, but when we watch film those receivers got us a lot of yards when it came to getting us to the upper level of the defense.”

On where he could improve as a passer after the Miami game “Just making smarter decisions. Trusting my linemen to get blocks here and there. Taking care of the football. Both of those turnovers were on me. I felt like if we didn’t have those turnovers we would have put the game away a lot longer ago.”
