Cream Edge Scarlet in Intrasquad Opener

Lincoln, Neb.- Sophomore Katt Sickle and freshman Jordah Ehly each notched two victories  Friday afternoon, leading the Cream to a 61-50 triumph in the annual Scarlet v. Cream Intrasquad Meet at the Devaney Natatorium.  Overall, the Cream won 10 of 13 events en route to a victory that gave the Cream a six to five all-time series lead.

The scarlet took an early lead with a victory in the first event of the meet, the 200-yard medley relay.  Jacqueline Juffer, Sam Hardewig, Erin Oeltjen and Taryn Collura combined for the relay victory.

The Cream battled back rattling off four straight victories.  In her return from an injury that caused Katt Sickle to miss the entire 2013-14 season,  Sickle raced to two individual victories.  Sickle's first victory came in the 200-yard freestyle.  Sickle also added a victory in the 500-yard freestyle later in the meet.  Jordan Ehly also added two victories, her first coming in the 200-yard individual medley.  Ehly earned another victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, later in the meet.

Alexandra Billunas added a victory in the 50-yard freestyle for the Cream.  Natalie Morris continued the momentum for the Cream by racing to a win in the 100-yard butterfly.

The Cream's run came to an end when the Scarlet's Taryn Collura captured a victory in the 100-yard freestyle.  Anna Filipcic added the Scarlet's third and final victory for the day, winning the one-meter dive.

The Cream finished the meet winning the last six events of the evening.  Rebekah Land started the streak for the Cream by notching a victory in the 100-yard backstroke.

The Cream also added two victories in the one-meter diving for swimmers and the 50-yard freestyle for divers. Oeltjen joined the Cream squad for the diving event and edged out Bilunas for the victory.  Nicole Schwery captured the 50-yard freestyle for divers for the Cream squad.

Headed into the final event of the meet, the Cream led the Scarlet 54-50.  The final event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle relay, was the deciding factor for the meet.  The Cream team, consisting of Bria Deveaux, Morris, Land and Sickle, barely edged out the Scarlet team's squad of Collura, Cassie Brassard, Julia Roller and Kelly Dunn, capturing the victory for the Cream team.

The Huskers will return to the pool on Sept. 27 for the annual Alumni Meet beginning at 10 a.m. at the Devaney Natatorium.  Check back on Huskers.com for updates as the squad continues its preparation for its regular-season opener in Iowa City, Iowa, against Big Ten rivals Iowa and Michigan.
