Wright Ties for 15th at Big Ten Championships

French Lick, Ind. - Katelyn Wright and Cassidy Stelzmiller produced top 20 individual finishes to lead the Nebraska women's golf team to 10th place at the 12-team Big Ten Championships on Sunday.

Wright, a senior from Incline Village, Nev., fired Nebraska's best round of the day with a two-over-par 74 to close the 54-hole tournament in a tie for 15th at 229. 

Stelzmiller, a third-year sophomore from Placerville, Calif., added a 75 for the Big Red to tie for 18th at 230 over three rounds on the par 72, 6,017-yard layout of the Pete Dye Course at the French Lick Resort.

Senior Steffi Neisen contributed a 78 to finish with a three-round score of 236 to finish in a tie for 41st. Sophomore Cassie Deeg rounded out Nebraska's team score in the final round of the six-count-four format with an 80. She finished in a tie for 63rd at 245.

Sophomore Morgan Smejkal managed an 81 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 55th in the 72-player field at 240, while freshman Jordan Chael completed the Husker contingent with a final-round 82 to finish 69th at 250.

As a team, Nebraska closed with a final-round 307 to take 10th with a three-round score of 931. Michigan State and Ohio State shared the Big Ten title with scores of 895. Northwestern finished 10 strokes back in third place at 905, while Penn State (912), Illinois (913) and Wisconsin (914) rounded out the top six teams in the tournament field.

Ohio State's Jessica Porvasnik claimed medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 216 that included a final-round 71. Buckeye teammate Zoe-Beth Brake finished second at 219, while Northwestern's Hana Lee finished third at 220. Wisconsin's Brooke Ferrell made a late charge up the leaderboard in the final round to finish fourth with a four-under-par 68 to close at 221. Michigan State's Allyssa Ferrell rounded out the top five at 225.
