Houston Selects Romero in Expansion Draft

Lincoln - With the seventh pick in the 2014 NWSL Expansion Draft, the Houston Dash selected former Nebraska soccer All-American Ari Romero from the Seattle Reign FC. Romero was one of ten players picked to join the newly-formed club in Houston.

The Dash will continue to build their roster via the 2014 NWSL College Draft which will take place on Friday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. (ET) at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention in Philadelphia.

Romero was orginally allocated to play for the Seattle Reign FC after she became the 12th Husker All-American in school history. As one of the elite defenders in the country, Romero was named the Big Ten Defender of the Year as she averaged more than 91 minutes per contest.

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) is a nine-team Division-I women’s professional soccer league featuring national team players from Canada, Mexico and the U.S. The nine clubs are the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, Houston Dash, FC Kansas City, Portland Thorns FC, Seattle Reign FC, Sky Blue FC, the Washington Spirit and the Western New York Flash.
