The No. 7 Nebraska rifle team fired a 4,631 to cruise by No. 11 Navy on Saturday. The Huskers finished with a smallbore score of 2,309 and an air rifle score of 2,322. “It's always exciting to get your first win of the year, especially against a conference opponent,” Coach Underwood said. “We had some personal bests in both smallbore and air rifle, but I believe we still have a big breakthrough in our team performance coming soon.” The Nebraska team was led in air rifle by freshman Lauren Phillips who finished with a career-high 585. Denise Martin led the Huskers in smallbore with a career-high 584. Freshman Rachel Martin contributed a 581 in smallbore, while junior Kelsey Hansen logged a 579 in air rifle. Sophomore Marissa Major also finished with a career-high score of 569 in smallbore. Navy finished with a 2,275 in smallbore and a 2,315 in air rifle, for a team score of 4,590. Navy was led by Alex Berry, who ended with a 572 in smallbore and Jodi Cull-Host, who shot a 586 in air rifle. The Huskers compete in their first away match next Saturday when they head to Kentucky to take on UT-Martin.
