Freeman Fires 69 in Final Round

Las Cruces, N.M. – Junior Calvin Freeman led the Nebraska men’s golf team on Tuesday by firing a 2-under-par 69 in the final round of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate at NMSU Golf Course.

Freeman finished the tournament tied for 26th with an 8-over-par 221 total over 54 holes. On Monday, he carded back-to-back 76s on the par-71, 7,074-yard configuration.

Ross Dickson also tied for 26th at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. The junior shot 3-over-par 74 in the final round after posting 74 and 73 in the first two rounds. Dickson and Freeman finished 14 strokes behind individual medalist Brett Walker of New Mexico State.

The Huskers showed improvement in each round, capping the tournament with a 5-over-par 289 on Tuesday. NU added rounds of 305 and 295 on Monday for an 889 total over three rounds. Nebraska finished the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in 11th place.

Freshman Justin Jennings paced his way to 2-over-par 73 in the final round at NMSU Golf Course. Jennings finished one stroke behind Freeman and Dickson in a tie for 31st. On Monday, Jennings managed 78 and 71 en route to a 222 total.

Mike Siwa, making his first start for the Huskers, fired his best score of the tournament in the final round with 2-over-par 73. The senior tied for 71st at 230. Siwa shot 77 and 80 on Monday.

Sophomore Kolton Lapa tied for 84th at 236. Lapa posted scores of 78, 75 and 83 at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate.

Tournament host New Mexico State won the team title with a 6-over-par 858 total. The Aggies finished six strokes ahead of second-place Colorado State.

Up Next: Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational
The Huskers will conclude their fall 2013 campaign at the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational on Friday and Saturday in El Paso, Texas.

Butterfield Golf Club, a par-72, 7,307-yard layout, is set to host the 54-hole tournament. Friday is 36 holes of continuous play starting at 9 a.m. CT. Saturday’s final round is also slated for 9 a.m.

Nebraska will compete alongside Air Force, Boise State, Colorado, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Kansas, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, San Jose State, Seattle, UC Riverside, Utah, UTEP and Western New Mexico at the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational.

The Huskers played in the event last season, finishing fourth with an 871 total. The Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational is in its second year as a collegiate tournament.
