Rio Mar, Puerto Rico - Steffi Neisen and Katelyn Wright led the Nebraska women's golf team to its best round of the tournament on the final day of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday morning.
Neisen, a junior from New Prague, Minn., posted Nebraska's best individual round of the tournament with a two-over-par 74 on the 6,191-yard layout of the River Course at the Rio Mar Beach Resort. Wright, a junior from Incline Village, Nev., added a final round 75 to help the Huskers shoot a 310. The Huskers closed the tournament in 15th place (326-326-310-962) in a loaded tournament field that featured 11 of the top-36 teams in the nation.
Wright tied for 59th at 235 as Nebraska's top individual finisher in the 84-player field. Neisen finished second among the Huskers and tied for 70th overall at 240.
True freshman Cassie Deeg managed an 80 Tuesday to finish 76th overall at 244 in Nebraska's opening tournament of the spring season. Redshirt freshman Jackie O'Doherty (80-84-82-246) tied for 76th, while fellow redshirt freshman Morgan Smejkal finished 82nd at 257.
No. 6 Alabama won the tournament by 13 strokes (871) ahead of SEC rival and No. 12 Arkansas (884). No. 20 Texas Tech finished third at 885.
Arkansas' Emily Tubert (213) held off Alabama's Stephanie Meadows (214) and Texas Tech's Kimberly Kaufman (214) to claim medalist honors.
Nebraska returns to action Feb. 24-25 at the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Ariz.
