Taylor Martinez, Jr., QB
On being the leader of the quarterback pack
"I'm just trying to get better every day. We all are competing to be on the first string, second string each day right now."

On the advantage of having two great tight ends, depth at wide receiver, and a great running back
"It makes my job a lot easier, just because we have two really good tight ends, and we have Rex and Ameer."

On how he spreads the ball around to the guys
"It's really difficult, but whenever Coach (Tim) Beck gives us, we just try and spread the wealth to everyone."

On Southern Mississippi's speed
"I think they call themselves the wild ones. I know they are very well-coached and very fast, but we have speed on offense, so it should be a good battle."

On Southern Mississippi's defensive end
"He's really good, I heard he is a first-rounder and a very good defensive end."

On year two of playing in the offense
"I'm very excited, and I think the whole offense is excited to show how far we have come, and hopefully we can show what we have been doing in fall camp."

On what fans can expect from the offense on Saturday compared to last year's season opener
"I'd say more crisp, more multiple, like speed it up or slow it down."

On his throwing motion
"I'm very excited to show everyone, but during the game we will see how it goes. I may or may not go back to my old ways depending on how the game goes."

On the offensive line
"Right now the offensive line has been doing great. We have a great unit, and we have a lot of backups. I have been just dropping back and I can stay in the pocket."

On the media talking about his throwing motion
"Yeah, it's whatever the media want to talk about they do. I guess you guys want to try and make money so you try and find things to talk about."

On his first start against Western Kentucky
"I'll remember my first touchdown run... It was really exciting."

On running vs. passing ratio
"60-40 passing, I'd rather pass the ball than run because, we have a lot of good receivers and tight ends. "

On if he breaks the passing record
"It would mean a lot, because there have been a lot of great QB's to come through here."

On Olympic wrestling gold medalist Jordan Burroughs talking about him
"I actually didn't see it, but I'm going to have to watch it now."

On how many receivers will play
'I think a lot. We have a lot of depth in that position."

On Nebraska being under the radar, and if it is less pressure
"Yeah I think so, we were picked to win it last year, but I think it is better to be under the radar."

On what he has to prove
"Just go out there and improve and keep getting better."
