Huskers Pick Up Eight Academic-All Big Ten Awards

Eight members of the Nebraska men's gymnastics team were awarded Academic All-Big Ten honors for the winter season, the conference office announced on Wednesday. The Huskers were one of only three schools with eight or more honorees.

A trio of seniors led the way for the Huskers on the list, as Andreas Hofer, Will Eastman and Michael Killeen all earned the conference honor. The award marks the second academic all-conference award for each senior athlete.

Junior Wyatt Baier also earned his second career academic all-conference honor with his Big Ten award. Four freshmen picked up their first career academic all-conference awards, as Donovan Arndt, Micah Christensen, Mark Ringle and Eric Schryver all appeared on the list for Nebraska.

Overall, Nebraska placed 45 student-athletes across six sports on the Academic All-Big Ten list. NU honorees competed in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's gymnastics, women's swimming and diving, and wrestling during the winter season.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

The conference office also awards Academic All-Big Ten distinction in the fall and spring seasons and will present the Distinguished Scholar Award at the end of the academic year. Student-athletes eligible for the Distinguished Scholar Award must be letterwinners in at least their second year in residence at their institution. Qualifying student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.7 or higher for the current academic year, excluding summer school. The Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award was established by conference Faculty Representatives as an addition to the conference's Academic All-Big Ten program.
