Sheils, Neisen Lead Huskers at Mountain View

Tucson, Ariz. - Madeleine Sheils and Steffi Neisen both produced top-10 individual finishes to lead the Nebraska women's golf team to a fifth-place showing in a 15-team field at the Mountain View Collegiate Saturday.

Sheils, a senior from Boise, Idaho, closed an outstanding tournament with a final-round, two-under-par 70. She finished the 54-hole event with a career-best, four-under-par 212 (69-73-70) to finish sixth in the individual standings. It marked Sheils' sixth top-10 finish of the year.

Neisen, who fired a school-record 66 in the second round Friday, added a final-round 74 to finish in a tie for seventh at 215 (75-66-74). The sophomore from New Prague, Minn., posted her third top-10 finish of the season and fourth of her career.

Kayla Knopik and Katelyn Wright both added final-round 75's to help the Huskers record a solid team score of 294 on Saturday. The Huskers concluded the tournament with a season-best 54-hole total of 878 (295-289-294). Knopik, a senior from Papillion, Neb., finished in a tie for 32nd (74-74-75-223). Wright, a sophomore from Incline Village, Nev., tied for 58th (79-76-75-230). Senior Katie Keiser rounded out Nebraska's top-five golfers in 86th for the tournament (77-82-85-244).

Sophomore Remylee Molyneux wrapped up the best tournament of her young career with a career-best 228, while playing as an individual outside the Husker lineup. Molyneux, who managed a final-round 77, finished in a tie for 50th.

Texas Tech captured the team title with a three-round total of 858 on the 6,227-yard, par-72 layout of the Mountain View Golf Course in Tucson. The Red Raiders closed the tournament with a 288 on Saturday. Iowa State finished seven shots back in second place at 865, including a final-round 284. Ohio State took third at 871, as the Buckeyes notched a 284 of their own on Saturday, while Indiana finished fourth at 873.

San Jose State's Jennifer Brumbaugh claimed medalist honors with an impressive, seven-under-par three-round total of 209 (69-67-73). Brumbaugh defeated Northwestern's Lauren Weaver in a playoff, after Weaver scored the course for a 209 of her own (69-71-69).

Nebraska will return to Lincoln and hope to take advantage of outstanding spring weather as the Huskers practice for nearly four weeks before returning to competition at the Ohio State Spring Invitational, April 21-22, in Columbus, Ohio. The Big Ten Championships are set for April 27-29 at the Donald Ross Golf Course in French Lick, Ind.
