Lincoln - Nebraska sophomore Jordan Hooper earned one of five spots on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-Region 6 Team announced on Thursday.
Hooper, a 6-2 forward from Alliance, Neb., joined fellow first-team All-Big Ten performers Samantha Prahalis (Ohio State), Tayler Hill (Ohio State) and Alex Bentley (Penn State), and Green Bay's Julie Wojta on the all-region squad.
Hooper ranked third in the Big Ten in scoring and led the conference in rebounding, averaging 19.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game for the 24-8 Huskers. She helped lead Nebraska to a final No. 17 national ranking by the Associated Press.
Hooper, who was the only sophomore on the All-Region 6 team, earned one of 52 spots nationally among the eight WBCA regions. Her first-team all-region status makes her eligible for 2012 WBCA All-America honors. Hooper was already one of 33 candidates for the Wade Trophy as the WBCA's National Player of the Year. She is also a Naismith Trophy candidate.
Nebraska earned a No. 6 seed in this weekend's NCAA Tournament and will face 11th-seeded Kansas on Sunday, March 18 in Little Rock, Ark. Two Jayhawks, Carolyn Davis and Angel Goodrich, earned spots on the WBCA All-Region 5 Team.

The selection committee uses an equation to determine a fair number of nominees from each region. The number of Division I institutions in each region is divided by the number of Division I institutions overall to get a percentage for each region. This percentage is then multiplied by 52 (the total number of desired finalists) to get the number of finalists for each region. The 52 All-Region Team members then go before the selection committee, which reduces the list to 40 finalists. These 40 finalists can come from any region. However, per a motion passed by the WBCA Board of Directors in 2008, the selection committee must select 12 finalists from Region 1 and six finalists from Region 4.
The 2012 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team will be announced at 1:05 p.m. MT Saturday March 31, during the NCAA's Super Saturday festivities at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announces the All-Region nominees for the 2012 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team. On, Monday, March 19, the selection committee will review these 52 candidates and trim the list to 40 finalists, all of whom will be in the running for selection to the 10-member WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team.
