Nebraska closed out the regular season in style with a 71-57 victory over No. 8 Ohio State Sunday in Lincoln. A big crowd on Senior Day watched freshman Emily Cady explode for a career high-tying 24 points in helping the Huskers to their 21st win overall and 10th of the Big Ten season. Cady's scoring total matched her other 24-point effort this season, which also came against the Buckeyes on Jan. 19.
OSU is the third-highest ranked team Nebraska has ever defeated and is the sixth top-10 team the Huskers have defeated in Connie Yori's 10 seasons in Lincoln.
Nebraska hauled in several honors when the Big Ten announced postseason awards Monday night. Sophomore Jordan Hooper was named first-team all-conference. She is just the fifth Husker sophomore to be named to an all-conference first team. Junior point guard Lindsey Moore was named second-team All-Big Ten, while Cady was named both honorable-mention all-conference and selected to the All-Freshman Team.
Nebraska will be the sixth seed in the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis this week. The Huskers face No. 11 seed Northwestern Thursday afternoon at approximately 1 p.m. (central) (25 minutes after the completion of the first game of the session). With a win, NU would face No. 3 seed Iowa Friday at the same start time.
Two wins would put Nebraska in a 4 p.m. Saturday semifinal game, while the championship game of the tournament is slated for Sunday at 3 p.m.
