Hooper Claims Big Ten Player of the Week

Lincoln - Nebraska sophomore Jordan Hooper captured the first Big Ten Player-of-the-Week award of her career, when the conference office named its weekly winner on Monday.

Hooper, a 6-2 forward from Alliance, Neb., erupted for a career-high 32 points to go along with eight rebounds and a career-high four steals in Nebraska's 97-88 double-overtime win at Northern Arizona on Saturday. Hooper scored 25 of her game-high 32 points after halftime to help the Huskers improve to 9-1 on the season. She also tied her season high with five three-pointers against the Lumberjacks.

Her effort in Flagstaff followed a 22-point, six-rebound effort in Nebraska's 66-55 win over Creighton on Thursday night at the Devaney Center. For the week, Hooper averaged 27.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game.

Nebraska's leading scorer and rebounder on the year, Hooper ranks second in the Big Ten Conference in both scoring and rebounding through 10 games, averaging 19.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per contest. She also ranks in the top 10 in both three-pointers made per game (T7th, 2.1) and three-point field goal percentage (9th, .375).

Hooper is the second Husker to earn Big Ten women's basketball player-of-the-week honors this season, joining junior point Lindsey Moore (Nov. 21). Moore added a Big Ten Player-of-the-Week of her own this week, when she won the weekly award selected by CollegeSportsMadness.com. On Nov. 21, Hooper was named the conference winner by the website.

Hooper, Moore and the Huskers return to home action at the Bob Devaney Sports Center this Sunday, Dec. 18, when they play host to Vermont. Tip time is set for 2:05 p.m. against the 6-3 Catamounts. Tickets are available now at Huskers.com or by calling 1-800-8-BIG-RED.

Sunday's game will be Hometown Husker Day for Seward freshman Emily Cady. Residents of Seward can receive discounted tickets at Huskers.com/tickets to support Cady and the Huskers at the Devaney Center against the Catamounts.

Sunday will also be TeamMates Recognition Day at the Devaney Center.
