NU Doubles Team Selected for National Indoor Championships

LINCOLN – After a very successful run in the USTA/ITA Regional Championships in which they were defeated in a close 9-7 match in the finals, Nebraska’s No. 13 ranked doubles team of Christopher Aumueller and Benedikt Lindehim were selected as an at-large team to compete in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in Flushing, N.Y., at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament begins on Nov. 3.

“We as coaches are very proud of Christopher Aumueller and Benedikt Lindheim for qualifying into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships and representing the University of Nebraska,” head coach Kerry McDermott said. “These guys got into the tournament based on their high ranking of being No. 13 in the country and making the finals of the Central Regional Tournament this past weekend which helped secure them a spot as an at-large team. It is a huge honor to play in this tournament and these guys will represent our school with flying colors. Both these guys are seniors and this is always one tournament that they have really wanted to play in over the last four years. Now their dream hascome true. We keep telling the guys on the team that good things happen when you work hard day in and day out, but you just never know when it will happen. Today it happened for these guys."

On Oct. 16 the duo of Aumueller and Lindheim won the doubles tournament at the OU Invitational. The two also reached the Sweet 16 at the All-American Tournament. They have a record of 8-2 on the year.

Aumueller and Lindheim will be back in action on Nov. 3 at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships. Continue to check back to Huskers.com for all your updates on the Huskers men’s tennis team as they continue to compete in their fall season.
