Huskers Snap Five Game Slide at Ohio State

Columbus, Ohio - A pair of second half goals from junior Morgan Marlborough and a career-high 11 saves from Emma Stevens powered the Nebraska soccer team to a 3-2 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes (10-7-1, 3-4-1). The Huskers, who are 6-8-1 overall and 3-5-0 during Big Ten play, snapped a five-game losing streak with the win and now have three games left in the conference season to try and get above .500 on the year.

The Buckeyes were on the attack all day with 26 shots, including 14 on goal, to set a season-high for the most shots by a NU opponent this season. Stevens stepped up to the challenge though with her 11 stops, which was four more than her previous career high of seven.

The scoring for Nebraska started early in game when the Huskers caught a break at 11:04, when an Ohio State defender knocked the ball into the their own goal. NU put a ball into the box and when an OSU player tried to clear it out, they deflected it instead into the net. The Buckeyes would answer 15 minutes later with Lauren Granberg's third goal of the season.  Kiiri Kuld crossed the ball to Paige Maxwell, who passed the ball to Granberg in the box for the shot from six yards out.

The Buckeyes posted 10 shots on goal in the first half, as Stevens shattered her previous saves record with nine in the first half alone.

Marlborough gave Nebraska 2-1 at the 50 minute mark when she finished off a loose ball in the box. Mayme Conroy and Stacy Bartels earned assists on Marlborough's 17th goal of the season. The Husker junior added her second goal of the game and her 18th of the season 20 minutes later to seal the game. Marlborough broke away from the pack and finished close to the goal to put in the eventual game winner, her fifth of the season.

The Buckeyes scored once more at 80:51 on Danielle Scoliere's first goal of the season to cut the Husker lead in half, but OSU was never able to find the equalizer in the final nine minutes of regulation.

The Huskers will return home for their final home games of the year this week. Nebraska will welcome Iowa to the Nebraska Soccer Field on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m. before Illinois visits on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on BTN.com.
