Husker Offense Slowed by Spartans

Lincoln - Laura Heyboer's 15th goal of the season at the 24:05 mark ended up being the only offense Michigan State would need on Friday night at the Nebraska Soccer Field, as the Spartans beat the Huskers by a score of 1-0. Nebraska had many opportunities to score throughout the game, but couldn't find the back of the net. On the night, NU out-shot MSU 16-9 and had six shots on goal, compared to the Spartans' three.

Junior Morgan Marlborough, who entered the week as the national leader with 1.50 goals per game, had a pair of scoring opportunities, but was just a bit high on each attempt and hit the crossbar. Senior Molly Thomas also had a breakaway late in the second half, but was unable to put on a solid strike and shot wide of the goal. The Huskers fall to 5-4-1 on the season and now carry a .500 record in Big Ten play at 2-2-0 after starting the conference season with a pair of wins over Northwestern and Purdue.

The Huskers will be back at the Nebraska Soccer Field on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host the Michigan Wolverines. The game will be carried live on Huskers.com (premium) and live stats will also be available. The Wolverines, who played at Iowa on Friday night, entered the week with a 6-3-2 overall record and a 1-1-1 conference record.
