Defense Prepares for Fresno State Attack

Lincoln - The Husker football team continued to gear up for Saturday's game against the Fresno State Bulldogs on Tuesday afternoon, as they practiced for just over two hours. The Huskers practiced outside at the Ed and Joyanne Gass practice fields in full pads.

After practice, defensive coordinator Carl Pelini said that the team implemented their game plan for the 6 p.m. matchup with the Bulldogs that will be televised nationally on the Big Ten Network. Nebraska is 1-0 following a 40-7 win over Chattanooga on Saturday, while Fresno State looks to rebound following a 36-21 loss to Cal last week.

"Tuesday's a long, hard workday for us. The guys push themselves today. I threw everything at them that they're going to see; all the difficult situations," Pelini said. "We had some mistakes out there, but its Tuesday. We'll get them corrected and have a great day tomorrow."

After registering six tackles and forcing a fumble in Saturday's game against Tennessee-Chattanooga, Carl Pelini was impressed with safety Daimion Stafford's play.

 "Daimion played very well. It wasn't perfect, like nobody was," Pelini said. "He made a lot of good plays. He did a really nice job in coverage, and was really disciplined back there. He's going to be a heck of a safety for us. I'm pleased with him."

With a lot younger players seeing time in Saturday's game, Pelini said he was pleased with how they played, but expects to see continued improvement with a game under their belt.

"I'm very pleased with them, and how the young guys played last week," Pelini said. "We expect them to be better. From your first game experience to your second game experience, we always feel as a team and an individual, that's where you make your biggest stride. So you really expect week two to see huge improvements for all the young guys."

The Huskers will continue to prepare for the matchup with the Bulldogs as they hit the practice fields again on Wednesday.
