Lincoln - After leading the nation in USTFCCCA All-Academic honorees on both the men's and women's sides, both Nebraska track and field teams were honored as USTFCCCA All-Academic teams by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. It marked the third straight year that both programs have earned the honor.
The Husker women were one of 164 institutions that earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better. On the track, the Huskers produced a solid season that included a team title at the Big 12 Indoor Championships. The Huskers posted a combined GPA of 3.43 to help the Big 12 put 11 teams on the national list, while the Big East led all conference with 12 teams honored.
The Big 12 swept the Women's Scholar Team-of-the-Year awards, as Texas was picked for the indoor season and Oklahoma took the outdoor honors. Princeton reported a cumulative team GPA of 3.68 through the spring 2011 semester, representing the best GPA in the nation among all divisions of NCAA track and field teams. Iona and Santa Clara followed with team GPAs of 3.57 and 3.56, respectively.
After being honored as the Indoor Track & Field Scholar Team of the Year in 2009, the Husker men were one of 90 programs named in 2011 with a team GPA of 3.18. The Huskers were one of eight Big 12 programs honored, which helped lead the nation, while the Ivy League and Big East tied for second nationally with seven teams honored each. The University of Richmond reported the highest cumulative team GPA at 3.51. Harvard and Duke finished second on the GPA list at 3.48.
To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative grade-point average.
