Burroughs Helps US Claim Victory over Russia in Times Square

New York, N.Y.- Former Husker Jordan Burroughs helped the United States wrestling team take down Russia with his, 1-0, 2-1, victory over Aniuar Geduev at the 2011 Beat the Streets Gala in New York City, N.Y. Wrestling in historic Times Square, Burroughs was one of five Americans to record a victory over their Russian counterpart as the US escaped with a 5-2 win.

With just over a month until the World Team Trials in Oklahoma City, Okla., Burroughs was able to edge Geduev by one point in each period to record the sweep. After the match, Burroughs said wrestling on that kind of stage was an amazing feeling.

"It was awesome," Burroughs said. "There were so many people here, movie stars, famous wrestlers. It's definitely something that I will remember forever. It was a great experience."

Burroughs pointed to his aggressive style that propelled him to the tight victory.

"Wrestling is wrestling, whether you are in Russia or Nebraska," Burroughs said. "I just need to keep wrestling hard, being aggressive and being offensive. I'm going to keep working hard to improve in all those areas."

The former two-time national champion will now turn his attention to the World Team Trials on June 9 in Oklahoma City. With his title at the U.S. Open April, Burroughs automatically earned a spot in the finals of the 74 kg/163 pound final.
