Huskers Upended by No. 11 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – Coming off their first Big 12 victory of the year on Friday, the No. 38 Nebraska Cornhuskers traveled to Austin, Texas, to take on the No. 11 Texas Longhorns (17-6, 3-2 Big 12) on Sunday afternoon and were defeated, 5-2. The loss gives the Huskers a 15-9 record on the year, and they are now 1-3 in Big 12 play.

 

For the second match in a row, the Huskers upset a top ranked doubles team in route to gaining the doubles point. This time for the Huskers at the No. 1 spot, it was the duo of Christopher Aumueller and Andre Stenger who defeated Texas’ No. 6 ranked pair of Jean Andersen and Ed Corrie in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (6). Winning the second match for the Huskers in doubles play at the No. 3 spot was Sebastian Florczyk and Robert Schulze who knocked off the Longhorns Chris Camillone and Daniel Whitehead, 8-2.

 

Afterwinning the doubles point, the Huskers were only able to win one more match in singles play. The Longhorns won five of the six singles matches, thus clinching the match.

 

In a match between to ranked players on court No. 1, Texas’ No. 49 Kellen Damico defeated Nebraska’s No. 75 Christopher Aumueller, 6-4, 6-4.  On court No. 2 Texas’ No. 33 Ed Corrie was victorious over NU’s Calin Paar in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. On court No. 3, UT’s No. 107 Jean Andersen knocked off NU’s Andre Stenger, 6-4, 6-2.

 

Winning Nebraska’s lone singles point was Benedikt Lindheim, who was on court No. 4. Lindheim defeated UT’s Ben Chen in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (2).

 

At the No. 5 spot, UT’s Vasko Mladenov was victorious over NU’s Sebastian Florczyk, 6-4, 7-6 (5). Texas’ No. 122 Daniel Whitehead was victorious over NU’s Tom Blackwell, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. Blackwell was playing at the No. 6 in the Huskers’ line-up.

 

The Huskers will take the court next on Friday, April 22, when they battle Oklahoma in Lincoln. The match between the Sooners and Huskers will begin at 3 p.m.
