NU Drops 5-1 Decision at No. 22 Texas A&M

College Station, Texas - The Husker offense was held in check for the second straight day, as No. 22 Texas A&M completed a two-game sweep of the 12th-ranked Nebraska softball team with a 5-1 victory on a windy Sunday afternoon in College Station, Texas.

The loss dropped Nebraska to 31-8 on the season, and the Huskers fell to 3-5 in Big 12 play with their fourth straight conference loss. Texas A&M improved to 33-11 overall and 5-4 in league play. The Aggies also remained undefeated at home this season, improving to 16-0 on their home field, while stretching their home win streak to 18 games.

Junior right-hander Ashley Hagemann suffered her fourth straight loss to fall to 22-7 on the season. Hagemann allowed four runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings. Freshman Tatum Edwards relieved Hagemann and allowed one run on three hits, while adding two strikeouts in 2.2 innings.

Offensively, senior Julie Brechtel produced Nebraska's lone run with her 26th RBI of the season. Sophomore Gabby Banda scored the Huskers' lone run and extended her career-long hitting streak to seven games with a 1-for-2 day. Nebraska managed only three hits in the game, while Texas A&M recorded 10 hits, the most by a Husker opponent this season.

Aggie ace Melissa Dumezich shut down a potent Husker lineup for the second straight day to earn the win and improve to 19-7 on2the year. After shutting out Nebraska on Saturday, Dumezich allowed only an unearned run on Sunday, tossing a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

Despite the end result, the Huskers scored the game's first run, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Banda was hit by a pitch to begin the inning. Junior Madison Drake moved Banda up with a sacrifice bunt and would up safe at first on an error. Freshman Taylor Edwards then singled with one out to load the bases. Following a strikeout, Brechtel was hit by a pitch to force in the game's first run.

A strong wind then helped Texas A&M tie the game in the bottom of the frame. Cassie Tysarczyk hit a high pop up to start the inning and the wind pushed it around, allowing it to fall in front of the pitcher's circle for a leadoff, infield double. Hagemann then retired the next two batters before Amber Garza delivered an RBI single.

The Aggies then took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. A leadoff single came around to score on a one-out, RBI double from Brittany Walker. Walker moved up to third on the throw home before a walk put runners at first and third with one out and marked the end of the day for Hagemann. Tatum Edwards came on in relief and a stolen base quickly put runners at second and third before an RBI single made it 3-1. A sacrifice fly then pushed the lead to 4-1.

Texas A&M added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI ground out against Tatum Edwards. The Huskers then got a one-out walk in the top of the seventh before a double play ended the game.

Nebraska returns to action on Friday, when the Huskers begin a seven-game homestand against Missouri at 6 p.m. at Bowlin Stadium.
