Nebraska Set to Compete in Fifth Round of NCAA Championship

Taylor, Mich.- The Nebraska bowling team is set to compete in the fifth round elimination match on Saturday morning at 9:40 a.m. central. The Huskers dropped their fourth round match of the NCAA Championship to Vanderbilt on Friday afternoon to force a fifth round elimination series, again against the Commodores.

The Huskers returned to action at the NCAA Championships on Friday morning fresh off of their 5-2 record on Thursday. The No. 2 seed Huskers took on Sam Houston State in the first best-of-seven baker matches. SHSU started off strong, winning the first baker match 179-169 before the Huskers stormed back to take the final four games of the series. (221-195, 226-206, 204-188, 237-211)

The Huskers were paired up with Maryland Eastern Shore in the second round after Maryland Eastern Shore defeated Arkansas State 4-1 in the first round. It took the Huskers one more match than previously to put away the Hawks. Nebraska found itself down 0-2 before taking the final four baker matches to take the series 4-2 to earn a spot in Friday evening's fourth round.

In Nebraska's final match of the day, the Huskers took on Vanderbilt, fresh out of their elimination round match up against Arkansas State. It took the Commodores six games to eliminate the Red Wolves, only to jump back into action against the Huskers, who had a bye.

Vanderbilt took the first two games from the Huskers as a couple of single pin misses proved to be the downfall. The Huskers dropped both of the first games by 5 pins each. Vanderbilt took the third game before the Huskers built any momentum, taking the fourth game. Just as soon as it seemed Nebraska had life, it was taken away in the sixth frame of the fifth game against Vanderbilt as NU left a pocket 7-10 split. The result was the same in the ninth frame as NU again left a solid 7-10. Vanderbilt took game 5 and the series.

Should Nebraska defeat Vanderbilt in the fifth round Saturday morning, the Huskers would compete in the NCAA Championship match Saturday afternoon at 2:40 p.m. central. Both matches Saturday can be streamed live on NCAA.com.
