Bird Claims Top 25 Finish at Baylor

Waco, Texas - Mary Kate Bird earned her fourth top-25 finish of the season to lead the Nebraska women's golf team to a 10th-place finish at the Baylor Spring Invitational on Tuesday.

Bird, a senior from Kansas City, Mo., closed the 54-hole tournament with a four-over-par 76 in the final round. She finished with a three-round total of 231 (81-74-76) to tie for 23rd. Bird led the Huskers to a 10th-place team finish in an 18-team field on the par-72, 6,257-yard layout of the Twin Rivers Golf Club.

Nebraska closed the two-day event with a three-round score of 935 that included a 314 in the final round. Juniors Madeleine Sheils and Kayla Knopik both settled for final rounds of 80 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 32nd at 234. Freshman Steffi Neisen provided the Huskers with their second-best round of the day with a 78 to finish in a tie for 51st at 238.

Katie Keiser rounded out the Husker contingent with a final-round 84 to finish in a tie for 72nd with a three-round score of 248.

Texas Tech's Alex Gibson captured medalist honors with a 219 that included a final-round 71 to lead the Lady Raiders to the team title. Tech won the team trophy by 10 strokes with an 899. North Texas claimed runner-up honors with a 909 that included the tournament's best round with a 289 on Tuesday. UTSA and Missouri State tied for third at 917.

Gibson edged Baylor's Chelsey Cothran, Missouri State's Kelsey Welber and North Texas' Jacey Chun by one stroke for the individual title.

In other Husker golf action on Tuesday, Remylee Molyneux managed a final-round 82 to finish in a tie for seventh individually (167) at the Creighton Golf Classic in Omaha. Fellow freshman Katelyn Wright also produced an 82 to tie for 10th with a 169 over two rounds. NU junior Carolyn Schorgl settled for a tie for 13th in the 49-player field with a two-round score of 170 (82-88). All three Huskers played as individuals at the tournament.

The Huskers return to action April 22-24 at the Big 12 Championships in Columbia, Mo.
