Huskers Led By Wyatt and Willman After Two Rounds

Columbia, Mo.Andrew Wyatt and Scott Willman each shot 6-over-par 150 after 36 holes at the C.O.G. Mizzou Intercollegiate on Monday, and sit in a tie for fifth, while the Nebraska men’s golf team is in second.

The Huskers, who won the tournament last year, shot 314 in the opening round at The Club at Old Hawthorne, a par-72, 7,221-yard layout, followed by 301 in the second round. NU was tied for fifth as a team after 18 holes, but moved up to second out of 16 teams with their 615 total after two rounds.

Tournament host Missouri leads the pack after posting 600 strokes through 36 holes. The Tigers, who shot 301 and 299 in the first and second round, respectively, lead the Huskers by 15 shots. Behind Nebraska is Eastern Michigan, Xavier, Cincinnati and Toledo, who are all within 11 shots of second place.

Andrew Wyatt and Scott Willman led the Huskers with 150 strokes each in the first two rounds. The 6-over-par total puts the Husker pair in a tie for fifth, eight shots off the lead. Wyatt carded 77 and 73 on day one, while Willman fired 78 and 72. Wyatt is seeking his fourth consecutive top-15 finish.

Brett Nymeyer and Neil Dufford are tied for 30th after two rounds of play, compiling 158 strokes apiece. Nymeyer shot consecutive rounds of 79, while Dufford finished with 81 and 77 after 36 holes. Each of them is searching for their third straight top-25 finish.

Senior Mike Coatman produced two rounds of 80 for a 160 total after the first two rounds. He is in a tie for 44th overall. The Lincoln, Neb., native tied for 36th at the Florida Atlantic Spring Break Championship last week and is playing in the No. 4 spot for the Huskers this week.

Missouri’s Jace Long led the scoring, with back-to-back 71s on Monday. His 2-under-par 142 total gives him a 5-shot lead over Nick Carbary of Eastern Michigan with 18 holes to play.
