Hamilton Moves Up on NCAA List

Ames, Iowa - With the NCAA Indoor Championships just one week away, a small contingent of the Nebraska track and field team traveled to Ames, Iowa, on Saturday for the ISU Qualifier. The Huskers were trying to improve their marks on the NCAA list to better their chances of qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Senior Paul Hamilton was the lone Husker to improve his standing on the NCAA list with a jump of 7-3 in the high jump. Hamilton, who has qualified for the national meet the previous three seasons, entered the meet tied with three other jumpers for the No. 15 spot with a leap of 7-2 ¼. If no other jumpers posted improved marks this weekend, Hamilton will now be tied with three other jumpers for the No. 12 spot on the NCAA list. Last season, 18 high jumpers were invited to the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Five Huskers have already posted automatic-qualifying marks to the national meet, including Natalie Willer (pole vault), Nicholas Gordon (long jump), Luke Pinkelman (shot put), Bjorn Barrefors (heptathlon) and Chantae McMillan (pentathlon). The rest of NU's team will now have to wait until 6 p.m. on Monday night when the NCAA releases its list of qualifiers for the national meet. The meet will be hosted by Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, on Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12.
