Albuquerque, N.M. – The No. 41 Nebraska men's tennis team finished its five-game road trip with a 7-0 victory over No. 51 Fresno State on Saturday. The Huskers improved to 14-6 on the year with the victory.
“The guys did a great job today,” Nebraska head coach Kerry McDermott said. “They played the whole match from start to finish and they took care of business.”
Nebraska started the match off with winning the doubles point.
The Huskers went on to win all six singles matches. At the No. 1 spot in the Huskers’ line-up was Calin Paar, who defeated Rikus de Villiers, 7-6, 6-2. NU’s Christopher Aumueller defeated Fresno State’s Remi Boutillier, 6-4, 6-4. Aumueller was playing at the No. 2 spot. At the No. 3 spot, the Huskers Benedikt Lindheim defeated the Bulldogs Francis Alcantara, 6-3, 6-3.
Tom Blackwell was playing at the No. 4 spot in the Huskers line up and went on to defeat Fresno State’s Jean-Charles Diame, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. At the No. 5 spot, NU’s Andre Stenger was victorious over Fresno State’s Siddharth Alapati, 6-3, 6-3. Winning at the No. 6 spot was NU’s Sebastian Florczyk who defeated David Ayoun, 6-4, 7-6.
With Saturday’s win, the Huskers end their spring break road trip with a winning record and will open up Big 12 play next weekend.
“This was a good way to end our spring break trip. I now feel like the guys are ready to start Big 12 play,” McDermott said.
The Huskers will open their conference play on Saturday, April 2, with No. 16 Baylor. The match will be at the Nebraska Tennis Center and is set to begin at 3 p.m.
