Davis Earns Fourth Event Specialist of the Week Award

Irving, Texas - Senior Erin Davis was honored as the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. She collects her sixth overall Event Specialist of the Week award and fourth this season after taking the vault title at the Masters Classic last weekend. The only other gymnast to win the award four times in a season since the award began in 2007 is former Husker Tricia Woo in 2009.

Davis earned the honor after tying her season-high on vault as the Huskers finished first in the Masters Classic last Sunday. Her score of 9.95 against No. 15 Iowa, Kentucky and Bowling Green gave the senior her fifth vault crown of the season. She is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation on vault and is the first from NU to hold the top spot in the event since Emily Parsons (2005-08). Davis also posted a 9.85 on floor, tying her season-high mark.

Additionally, Oklahoma's Kayla Nowak was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week. She competed in the all-around for just the second time in her career, scoring a 39.375 in OU's 196.650-196.275 win over No. 8 Michigan on Saturday. Iowa State's Camille Santerre-Gervais earned Newcomer of the Week honors after she posted a 9.900 score on bars last Friday against No. 15 Iowa.

The Huskers host Arizona State on Sunday, March 6 at the Devaney Center. Competition is set to begin at 2 p.m.
