The Nebraska women's tennis team climbed an impressive five spots to No. 26 in the latest ITA Women's National Team Rankings, marking the highest ranking achieved in the history of the program. The Huskers earned the ranking following a gritty 4-3 victory over No. 61 Wichita State on Feb. 16.
The Huskers started the 2011 season ranked No. 34 in the nation. They have since climbed eight spots after chalking up six wins, including against three ranked opponents (No. 38 Boise State, No. 75 Wyoming and No. 61 Wichita State).
This ranking breaks the previous record of No. 30, set on April 30, 2005. The 2005 squad featured Huskers such as two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American Imke Reimers and four-time first-team All-Big 12 honoree Gitte Ostermann. The team's 18-4 finish is still the NU record-holder for fewest team losses and season team winning percentage (.818).
