Huskers Pounce on Tigers, 76-34

Lincoln - Lindsey Moore led four Huskers in double figures with 23 points, including a career-high-tying five three-pointers, as the Nebraska women's basketball produced their best effort of the Big 12 season with a 76-34 victory over Missouri on Tuesday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

With the win, Nebraska improved to 13-14 overall and 3-10 in Big 12 play, while Missouri slipped to 12-15 overall and 4-9 in the league.

Moore added eight assists and six rebounds on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, including 4-of-6 three-pointers. The 5-9 point guard from Covington, Wash., also received some rare rest in league play, competing for a Big 12-low 34 minutes.

Junior forward Harleen Sidhu added a career-high 12 points off the bench by hitting 5-of-7 shots from the field including both of her three-point attempts. Sidhu's previous season high was six points. She added a rebound and an assist in 22 minutes.

Senior center Catheryn Redmon pitched in 13 points, four rebounds and five blocked shots, while freshman forward Jordan Hooper added 10 points and four rebounds in just 19 minutes.

The Huskers shot 49.1 percent (28-57) from the field, including 10-of-23 from three-point range, while knocking down 10-of-14 free throws. NU also dominated the boards with a 46-31 advantage.

"I am so happy for this team," Nebraska Coach Connie Yori said. "They deserved a game like this because despite all the challenges we have faced, they have kept battling and working. They deserved this win and they earned it. Obviously, Missouri didn't play their  best game, but we didn't give them an inch.

"Obviously, Lindsey Moore played a great game. That is about as good of a stat line as you will ever see. And Harleen Sidhu deserved a game like that. I am so proud of her. She is one of our best practice players day-in and day-out, but she has really been bothered by the knee injury she has. It just goes to show you that good things will happen if you stick with it. This is the kind of game that makes coaching fun, because of the growth you see from players."

While the Huskers were hot, the weary Tigers were ice cold, hitting just 10-of-55 shots (18.2 percent) from the field - the worst shooting effort ever by a Big 12 opponent and the second-worst overall in school history. MU went just 3-of-14 from three-point (21.4 percent) range. MU did manage to hit 11-of-16 free throws, and won the turnover battle, 13-12.

Nebraska's 42-point margin of victory matched its second-largest margin against a conference foe in Big 12 history. NU also defeated Texas Tech by 42 last season in Lubbock. The Huskers' largest victory margin in league history also came against Missouri with a 48-point win (84-36) in the first year of Big 12 play in 1996-97.

Missouri's 34 points were an opponent season low and the fewest points ever surrendered to a Big 12 foe. MU's 10 made field goals were also a season low.

No Missouri players managed double figures on the night, while RaeShara Brown and Trenee Thornton each finished with nine points.

Nebraska shot out to its best first half of Big 12 Conference play by running to a 39-15 halftime lead. Moore led the Huskers with 13 points, five rebounds and five assists in the first half, including a 28-footer from the left wing at the halftime buzzer.

Hooper added seven points and four first-half rebounds, while Sidhu contributed a season-high seven points of her own in the first half, while adding a rebound and a charge drawn in just six minutes.

Nebraska hit 16-of-32 shots from the field, including 6-of-13 three-pointers, while outrebounding the Tigers, 23-14. NU also won the first-half turnover battle, 7-6.

Missouri hit just 5-of-26 shots from the field in the first half, including 2-of-8 three-pointers. Trenee Thornton led Missouri with six points on a pair of three-pointers as the only Tiger to hit more than one first-half shot.

Nebraska returns to Big 12 road action when the Huskers travel to Lawrence to take on Kansas on Saturday. Tip-off between the Huskers and Jayhawks is set for 7 p.m.
