Adams Comes Close to NCAA Auto Mark

Seattle, Wash. - With the majority of the Nebraska track and field team in College Station, Texas, for tomorrow's Texas A&M Conference Challenge, Lara Crofford and David Adams were Seattle, Wash., Friday night for the Husky Classic. Both Husker distance runners competed in the 5,000 meters on Dempsey Indoor's 300-meter oversized oval.

Running in one of the premier distance meets of the indoor season, Adams cut nearly eight seconds off his previous oversized best of 13:55.68, which he ran at last season's Husky Classic, with a time of 13:48.78. The York, Neb., native placed eight in both his heat and the overall field of 88. The top-six finishers all ran below the NCAA automatic-qualifying time of 13:47.00, which Adams missed by just 1.78 seconds.

Early in the night, Crofford took 16th in her section with a time of 16:47.26. There were four sections of the women's race, with Crofford placing 37th out of 91 runners.

The rest of the Nebraska track and field team will join fellow Big 12 schools Texas A&M and Baylor tomorrow to battle programs from Conference USA, the Pac-10 and SEC conferences. The four conferences will each have three teams representing them and will compete in a one-day team-scored meet.
